Motivational Interviewing (MI) is an evidence-based, collaborative technique that encourages change in health-related behaviors. This technique is used by primary care clinicians to strengthen patients’ motivation to change by exploring and resolving ambivalence around alcohol use.
MI originated in the substance use treatment field and is now widely used by many health professionals. It is an effective approach to discuss difficult and chronic health challenges with patients.
This online activity consists of two-30 minute modules including an overview presentation and instructional videos designed to teach healthcare practitioners how to employ motivational interviewing techniques.
Participate in this unique training opportunity to enhance your skills in MI. By completing the program, you’ll join your colleagues across the state by becoming Time to Ask MI champions at your organizations.
Learn from and practice virtually with others in Maine.
MI is specifically tailored to conversations around alcohol use, yet also helps you hold other difficult conversations with patients.
Specific topics in the training include shared decision making, diversity, equity and inclusion, and recovery conversations.
