Maine Nursing Preceptor Education Program

2022 Information

2022 Virtual Program Dates

Tuesday, October 25, 2022, 8:00am to 12:30pm - Wednesday, October 26, 2022, 8:00am to 12:30pm

The program includes eight, asynchronous online modules and a two-day live virtual workshop. Participants must complete the eight modules prior to attending the live workshops.

The first two modules will be released September 14th, then two additional modules will be released every two weeks.

Registration is open until October 11, or while seats are available. Space in this program is limited.

This statewide program is provided free of charge for participants through funding from the Lunder-Dineen Health Education Alliance of Maine.

Who Can Participate?

Prior to registering for the program, please review the qualifications and criteria for participation. The program is open to:

  • Registered nurses across the continuum of care, including school health and public health
  • Clinical nurse educators and nurse managers
    Although not the target audience, these groups are invited to participate along with registered nurse attendees from their organizations in order to further a collaborative practice mode and the ongoing development of new preceptors.
  • Nursing school faculty
    Although not the target audience, nursing faculty are invited to participate to bridge the gap between academia and practice.
Program Details

Qualifications and Criteria for Participation

Please review and ensure that you meet the program qualifications. If at any time you are unable to meet these criteria, please notify both Lunder-Dineen and your sponsor as soon as possible. Space is limited and an open spot can go to an individual on the program waiting list.

Registered Nurses Interested in Assuming the Preceptor Role

All participants must be:

  • A registered nurse who provides direct patient care with at least one year of clinical experience.

All participants must agree to:

  • Plan to assume the role of preceptor following completion of the program.
  • Commit to obtaining the knowledge, skills and abilities to guide and support:
    • Newly graduated nurses
    • Nurses transitioning to new practice settings/organizations
    • Nursing students completing clinical placements
  • Complete all mandatory online learning modules and the two half-day virtual workshops. The online modules must be completed a minimum of one week prior to the workshop date(s). You should set aside approximately 30-45 minutes to complete each module.
  • Complete an online workshop evaluation.
  • Adhere to all restrictions on the use of copyrighted program materials owned by Lunder-Dineen.
  • Identify a sponsor within your work setting. The role of the sponsor is to endorse the participant’s enrollment in the program and provide follow-up guidance and support to the participant when they assume the preceptor role. Common sponsors include chief nursing officers, directors of nursing, nurse managers or nurse educators.
  • Provide the name and email address of the sponsor when you register for the program.

CE Credits

The Maine Nursing Preceptor Education Program is approved for 14 nursing contact hours. This includes eight required online modules and two live half-day workshops. Two additional modules (optional) are available for .75 credits each. Nursing contact hours are provided to participants who complete the following program requirements:

  • Completion of all eight modules
  • Attendance and active participation during the workshops
  • Completion of an online workshop evaluation

In support of improving patient care, Mass General Brigham is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.
